ellen d. williams is a los angeles native. born and raised in beautiful sunny santa monica, california.
she knew she wanted to be an actor from a very young age when she would watch such shows as the carol burnett show, donny and marie osmond show, she also loved dance fever and the brady bunch. she loves 80's sitcoms and theme songs.
her first acting role was playing the indian chief in peter pan at the ywca summer program when she was 8.
her second role was in the play annie when she made everyone at a sleepover act out scenes from annie the movie. of course she played annie while she had everyone else play everyone else. the sun will come out tomorrow.
her sophomore year in high school she was cast in the musical, grease. she played jan (brusha brusha brusha, it's a much bigger part in the play.) a few years later she played marty when the original girl they cast dropped out. she went on to do more community theatre during her high school years.
her first professional gig was in the musical, moby dick: a whale of a tale, which took her away from home for the first time in her life with massachusettes repertory, the producer for this show was cameron mackintosh (london producer of such hits as: les miserables, miss saigon, phantom of the opera to name a few) on one of the breaks from the show in boston she visited new york for the first time in her life. the first broadway shows she saw were: the who's tommy and angels in america.
she's done a lot of musicals, a lot of plays, she loves theatre, but equally loves tv and film too.
she is currently playing nicole baskets on the fx network show, baskets, opposite zach galifianakis but ellen is most known as robin scherbatsky's arch nemesis and co-worker, patrice, on a little show called how i met your mother. some other great shows she's worked on: superstore, bless this mess, i'm sorry, brooklyn 99, the mindy project, life in pieces, kevin from work, criminal minds, the real o'neals, you're the worst, pitch, and the pilot, distefano, where she was reunited with himym creators carter bays and craig thomas, along with one of her favorite people/directors in the world, Pam Fryman.
she likes (in no particular order): her person, her parents, people who smile, animals, gadgets, sneakers, babies, singing jingles, making people laugh, wine, grilled cheese sandwiches, sleeping in, her friends, and traveling.
